Basic Touch up: Pitch pocket in Cherry

This is a solid cherry board with a dye stain. There is an open pitch pocket which is very common in cherry. My first step was to do a burn in with Konig hard wax burn in sticks so there is no hole.
I'll do a step by step on that process at a later date.

More after the break...

I just used a clear burn in for this one because the pitch pocket is so dark. Dark marks are the most difficult to touch up and seamlessly blend in. The first step is to paint out the dark areas with a base color of the highlight color of the wood and seal that in. I am using a Konig KO250 Touch-up Paint box. These are lacquer based colors and cover dark spots really well the plastic sheet is for color matching.

With sealer over touch up paint.

Then I use Stabilo pencils to add the grain texture over the touch up paint and blend in the color.
These pencils are also fabulous for repairing sand-throughs of the color.
These are similar to china markers because they will write over the finished surface but they are also water based so they can be used like water colors as well.
